| album review Florence Rawlings is an astonishing singer. Next level. A sound singer. Otherworldy. This review could simply be summed up by the first line, the topic sentence, i would not need to go any further but I believe that I need to drill it into every pair of cataracts out there how much of a young, exceptionally beautiful and vocally virtuoso singer Florence Rawlings is. I am even prepared to reveal my embarrasing singing past (6 years as a Soprano/Tenor choir boy) to reinforce and reiterate how not only do i think that Miss. Rawlings is a good singer, but simply that i KNOW that she is a good singer.
Miss. Rawlings (shall be referred to as Flo in the future as I have a sprained thumb) was spotted by Dramatico (Katie Meula\'s label) at the age of 13, at the same time as Katie. Songwriter and owner Mike Batt let her continue her studies until the end of her A-level results at which then she recorded the debut album \'A Fool in Love\', a plethora of blues tunes that Flo sings with great sincerity and effortless talent. Mike Batt obviously spotted her talent at a young age, and in the years of studying like a good young girl Flo\'s skill only festered.Singing songs that have been written by Mike Batt and the ocassional cover (Can\'t Catch Me by Chuck Berry standing out especially), Every song on the entire album is catchy and easily sing-alongable to. Although it is hugely likely, and I fiercely hope that, Flo will soon rival modern soul giants like Joss Stone, I do have one problem with the album. It is not the exceptionally nice cardboard cover, with the exceptionally nice-looking girl who is slightly (only slightly) out of my age range, it is the songs. Mike Batt is not a bad songwriter, but the songs just do not harness Flo\'s great voice, which you only see glimpses of 30-40% of the time. Some songs need to be written for her so she can really go for it, Miss. Rawlings is a gifted singer, but she the needs the chance to show off her voice instead of holding back.
There is no excuse for not buying this album, I even uploaded a picture.
