The Daves - 'Not In England'

(Published: 17:58:35 on 26-12-2007)

demo review

Four Essex lads, high by this time on the side effects of the narcotics they had acquired through the proceeds of various part time jobs, thought to themselves that there must be more to life than the shady outlook that was rearing it’s ugly head. It was then that Jim, Pete, Johnny and Dave decided to turn their attentions to their next big passion in life and form a band.
The Daves have a sound that is close to a Paul Weller/ Oasis amalgamation. With simple acoustics that are overrun with an abundance of melancholic charm, crashing drums and a multitude of rhythmatic guitar riffs form an invigorating backdrop to Jim’s vocals which are a close second to Noel Gallagher’s earthy and emotive tones. The track is a four minute story of a failed relationship in which things have deteriorated to an unrecoverable state, one of The Daves more sombre numbers it’s balladry is refreshing to hear in comparison to the rest of the bands growing repertoire.
