Interview:
1. Band Name?
Ten Tigers
2. Why so called?
CK Thought of the name, it comes from an old comic, The Phantom. The
Phantom had the Power Of Ten Tigers.
3. Where From?
Southend and Cambridge
4. Line Up?
Manda mainly plays the bass and drums.
M plays the guitar, the bass, the clarinet, the thumb piano and some
stuff which hasn't made it into songs.
CK plays the rhythm guitar.
Paul Travolta plays the drums, the glockenspiel, and other percussion.
We all sing.
5. Average Age?
29.
6. How long have you been together?
About 8 months with Paul.
7. You are influenced by, or would appeal to fans of….?
We would appeal to people who like short fun songs.
8. Your fans are mostly…
Our friends
9. Any recordings?
There are some songs recorded with one microphone on our My Space,
but we are heading into the studio in August to record some better
versions.
10. What makes you different?
We write 3 minute power pop songs about, among other things, growing
your own vegetables and counterfeiting money. We swap instruments a
lot and combine lots of different styles because we get bored easily.
11. A song you wish you’d written?
We're more than happy with our own songs, although it would be great
if we'd written 'Love Your Money' by Daisy Chainsaw as we did it as a
cover and it was very popular.
12. Which of your songs is most likely to be a hit?
None are likely, but people seem to like '82'. It's a 3 minute
coming of age song about sexuality and nostalgia
with a big grunge chorus. A bit like Ash's 'Oh Yeah' but gay. And it
has it's own dance routine.
13. Career highlight?
So far, our first gig, which was at Chinnery's. Also, getting a
review before we'd played a gig or recorded a demo. At that point
things started to get weird and they haven't been normal since.
14.Any good gig stories?
M made her own dress for the Chinnery's gig which she then had to
chew her way out of. She needed to get out of the bathroom to watch
Paul's robot dancing.
15. So the moral of this story is....
Use buttons. And zips. And avoid robot dancing as it will only lead
you astray.
16. Gigs coming up?
21st August at the Grand, Leigh on sea, for the open mic.
31st August at The Sunrooms in Southend, proudly supporting The
Beatroots.
