1. Band Name? Hallion
2. Why so called? The term Hallion is an Irish term for a rogue or scoundrel. My family is from there and it was a phrase used whenever I was getting into trouble.
It's great name for a hard rock band without necessarily tying you to a musical style like others might.
3. Where From? We're all from the south of Essex, Wickford, Basildon and Southend way
4. Line Up? Gav Ruadh - Vocals &lead/rhythm guitars
Dane - Lead/rhythm guitars
Mike-E-B - Bass & backing vocals
Andy "The Animal" Edmonds - Drums
My 2nd family without a doubt.
5. Average Age? Mid 20's as an average
6. How long have you been together? Current lineup very early 2006, although started as a solo project back in 2002
7. You are influenced by, or would appeal to fans of….?
Although the hard rock/glam/old school metal influences are worn on our sleeves, we listen to a very wide area of music.
We're popular with fans of veterans and icons like Alice Cooper, WASP, Maiden, GNR, Metallica etc
However, have also noticed a lot of fans of the whole Emo scene checking us out too. Quite a surprise really.
8. Your fans are mostly…
Our fans are a wide and varied bunch!
Ranging from early teens to people who were into 70's/80's rock and metal back in the day...
The US and Scandanavia are our biggest territories.
Due to the very high percentage of female fans, we often get labelled as a "chick band" and none of us have any problem with that at all! haha
9. Any recordings?
Yeah, so far released 2 albums, 2002's "Born Of Fire" and "Rhythm & Bruise" in 2005.
A 3rd album "Forgive Never Forget", featuring the current lineup should be out by the end of the year
10. What makes you different?
The fact that Hallion isn't chasing every single bandwagon that comes along.
When I started this, with Nu-Metal at it's peak, I had a definate vision of what I wanted to do and stuck with it.
11. A song you wish you’d written?
Far too many to list!
Whenever I hear a song that makes me take notice I draw inspiration from it. Try and make something that makes me feel like I did when I heard that last great song.
12. Which of your songs is most likely to be a hit?
So far, songs like "A Word With Yourself", "Ain't My Generation", "Leave Me Alone"...they have been ones that people have yelled for at shows.
I knew when I wrote those that if the opportunity happened, that they would be likely singles.
13. Career highlight? So far, there have been two great ones.
Being asked to put together an hour long film of the band for US TV was a grand opportunity. Live performances, music videos, interviews... It was shown for 5 consecutive weekends and earned us a fair few new fans.
Secondly, I have to say once again, that the supporters we have has been a definate highlight! They make it all worthwhile!
14.Any good gig stories?
This could make a book over the years!
It's the near disasters and obstacles that we face and laugh about later that are our best stories. Turning negatives into positives I suppose.
We're always professional and easy to work with but that has been tested on many an occaision.
We've played gigs in basements standing in inch deep water in total darkness, psychotics in the crowd and attempted sabotage of equipment... only to hear these words from promoters...
"Sorry we can't pay you tonight. Look at it this way, it's a free rehearsal for you innit?"
It's enough to make you want to trash the place haha
15. So the moral of this story is....
When I started Hallion, the No.1 was that I wanted to make an album that I would want to rush out and get!
When it came to the lineup. It had to be the kind of band that I always wanted to see, let alone be in.
Without sounding arrogant, when I'm an old guy in the rocking chair and someone asks me who my favourite band was.... I want to point at the Hallion logo and say "That band!!" with pride "They made the music I always wanted to hear"
In time I hope to do that.
16. Gigs coming up?
At the time of writing only the 24th August at The Rayleigh Mill Arts Centre is confirmed.
